"logos"- logical thinking. (pull in statistics, quotes from authority.)

"ethos"- (discuss particular issues, incorporate morals and values, and ask how you advance your credibility)

"Pathos"- appeals to emotions(use narratives to engage the imagination and move the audience)

common ground- where you and your opponent can agree on something

argumentation- trying to consider the audience and their values and see how you can use that to pull them into what you are trying to say

good argumentative papers have thesis questions, not statements. (ie. Is capital punishment just?)
